Wise Training
Believe
Aren’t you curious as you see this word on banners, cards, flags, signs, pillows, and dishes all displaying “Believe.” When I
first noticed this I thought, “Amazing. What a good thought!” Then I was reminded that the belief we were to have was in self!!! How putrid. How weak. How absolutely
deplorable.
But for us it can open deep and abiding conversation as we
think on, “…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved,…” Acts 16:31
New
The new year brings new opportunities for each student and family. Be warned that most New Year’s Resolutions
are hopes and promises for a better you – all within your own strong
resolve. Beware that you not fall prey
to that philosophy teaching that you have the power within to achieve all that
you set your mind to.
Rather we want our families to know that “I can do all
things THROUGH CHRIST who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13
Good Books
Remember to
bring titles of excellent read-alouds to workshop to share.
Reminders:
- Continue to read TO your children even after they read
fluently.
- Talk about the good books you read. Not the drilling, testing kind of talk but
the fun and challenging talk.
- Share your ideas with others who visit your home.
Language
Still a
good language practice is the daily writing and correcting of a sentence. After
each sentence is mastered in subject, verb, adverb, adjective,
prepositional phrase, spelling and punctuation, then the sentences can be combined to make a paragraph.
Additionally paragraphs of the same topic can be combined to
make an opinion or research essay.
Writing daily is a great way to become proficient.
Attitude
One of the
difficult attitudes that we deal with is laziness. “Why do I have to do that?
It’s his turn. I shouldn’t have
to do this work. I don’t know what to
write,” are all comments we hear. Look
up “LAZY” in your Bible concordance to get a picture of what God thinks of it.
So what’s a parent to do?
Consider:
- Sincere, specific prayer.
- Naming it and discussing it
- Deciding to set a schedule and stop the nagging.
- Planning ahead for appropriate consequences.
- Allowing the consequences to be applied rather than making
excuses.
Allowance
Several
have asked about allowance money for young children (or any at home
children). Certainly Scripture allows
for good gifts to be given to our children.
In giving any good gift, we must be careful what we are teaching. If you decide on an allowance, does the
child then have a “right” to expect it?
Is he “entitled” to it?
My preference on this topic is for children to enter into
work because they are a part of the family.
Since God’s plan is the family unit then working together for the god of everyone seems proper. Perhaps older
children can make money for extraordinary work they do to help the family.
We can discuss this at workshop if you choose.
Revival
Please consider praying with me for revival.
Revival in my heart and yours.
Revival in our nation!
What other needs do you see as urgent? We can pray together.
