Surrender!

by Becky Wyand

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb. 12:2

Indeed, to such an author our surrender is never in vain. He is all knowing, all-powerful and fully and completely worthy.

The Word

Set ample time for the study of the Word. Why make such an emphasis in our school?

  1. So that each one’s path – no matter where she travels – might be full of light. (Ps. 119:105)
  2. So that each might have cleansing of any evil way. (Ps. 119:9)
  3. So that each one’s behavior is honorable and not evil. (Ps. 119:11)

Good reading

The Lamplighter books are a good way to get ideas about how people lived and interacted years ago. For example, “The Wrestler of Philippi” gives (in novel form) a picture of the Christian’s life in the early days of Nero in Rome. You could tell that the author knew Scripture even though it was written as a novel. Also, biographies are serving as a great encouragement to me right now. I just finished Elizabeth Prentice’s biography. She endured such trials with full assurance of God’s hand on her; therefore her joy could be complete. Share your favorites with me!

Cleaning

I’m trying to follow a good friend’s advice. I’ll pass it on to you.

  1. Go to closets, cabinets and corners in your home. Choose a small area to conquer on any given day. Discard items no longer needed. Keep moving until you have covered every nick and cranny.

Be careful:

  1. You will be tempted to skip and area because it’s too difficult or you think there is no junk there.
  2. You will fail to begin the clean out because you can’t see ever finishing.
  3. You will move something from one area to another because you just can’t get rid of it.

Keep cleaning. It will be so helpful to start the next school year in order.

Looking to the next school year

This is a good time to evaluate what tweaking your schedule will need for next year.

Reminders when setting your schedule:

  1. Older free reading children need some independent study. This should be regularly scheduled without nagging.
  2.  Remember the one or two hour flat on back time for each at-home family member.
  3. Make a time in your schedule for new skills to be learned. Whatever you know how to do; you want your child to be able to do.
  4. Plan for fun. If you must, schedule it!
  5. Schedule regular chores to avoid a mad rush before dinner or bed.
