Taking the Time to Worship
by Becky Wyand
1. I love to worship and pray through the Psalms. You can take a few minutes or a few hours and your meeting with God will be rich and personal.
There are many ways to make his work:
a) State your problem to the Lord Read Psalms at random, praying as they address your problem.
b) Start with the day of the month, read that Psalm and add 30 reading through the Psalms. Example: 3, 33, 63, 93, 113, 143. Pray and worship at any spot you are led.
c) Choose a favorite psalm and read, pray, reread, and meditate.
2. Please remember that God is in the miracle working business. Commit your problem to him. Accept his dealing with you as a picture of his love. If you are still dealing with that very difficult situation KNOW that God has an answer prepared for you. If God speaks to you and it seems to call for you to slow against he current, obey God and prosper.
3. Plan some activities that will give your children hands on experience in the use of money. Relate the project to their age and ability. Have children share in saving for family needs.
4. Several reminders for older children:
a) Include everyday skills in the curriculum.
b) Teach all children some consumer math.
c) Prepare a list of life changing books for all ages to keep with your precious belongings.
d) Plan to write one poem or one song during your four years of high school.
e) Know WHY you believe what you believe.
f) Include Christian service in the curriculum even after the credit is won.
g) Create a unit of study on a topic of interest. Make visuals. Teach it to children at home or where possible.
h) Become comfortable finding answers to questions and writing you your findings.
i) Have a plan to improve your vocabulary.
j) Don’t forsake Bible memory. Best method for the older is probably meditation and repetition.
5. The hardest thing that you will face in discipline is being consistent with what the Word of God teaches you to do. Your desire will be to find easier ways, ways that work more quickly and show results now. My plea to you is to know the Word as it relates to discipline, obey that consistently and allow God to do His everlasting worked.
6. Take the word “peace” or “joy” and see what the Word of God says on that topic. Discuss knowing the mind of Christ on that topic. Hold each other accountable to contribute to “joy” in your home. Write a story using the ideas you have discovered.
7. So much TV, movies, and literature creativity is so bizarre. Encourage creativity that is wholesome. Create a cartoon character that looks approachable. Develop a plot where evil loses.
8. If research has been a hurdle, start with simple projects.
a) Send a letter to friends in different parts of the country or world and ask for a weather report on a designated date. Compile and compare your nformation.
b) Determine your shoe size and try to discover what size that would be in Italy, in Hong Kong, etc.
c) Start keeping a record of what your pet eats, does, sleeps, etc, for a week.
9. Study Hebrews 4. Think on the word, “rest”. Is “rest” important to God? Do we obey him in giving over even our “rest” to him?
