Gary and Sally Cox thank the Lord as they close in on 33 years of ministry in Frederick, Maryland, having been ordained and released to ministry by their pastor, Gerry Smith and the then current elders of South River Bible Church (SRBC) on June 13, 1977. Gary and Sally have ministered continuously since then under the ensuing church plant: Walkersville Christian Fellowship (WCF).

Does your daughter draw attention to herself by noisy silliness? Does your son get easily flattered and distracted by popularity? Such tendencies certainly are normal, but these seemingly harmless attributes can expose your children to serious moral danger if left untrained by biblical teaching. Furthermore, the security of your children’s future marriage relationships can be impaired if you indulge your daughters and sons in experiences of emotional bonding which stem from these attractions.

Parenting as Ministers of Light |

HERE is the nature of the Gospel. If a man is going to do a work, he is going to preach himself. But if a man is alert that only God can do a work, then he is going to preach God, he is going to preach Christ. We have to understand that there is within us the natural tension to preach ourselves, to preach our agenda, our concerns or our interests. However, as ministers of Christ we cannot preach ourselves and have fruit. We must preach Christ.

The Importance of Bestowing a Good Education on Daughters by Francois Fenelon |

The ignorance of a child is the cause of the weariness which he suffers, as he knows not how to occupy himself innocently; for after spending all the early part of life without any serious application, it is vain to expect that he can have any taste or relish for anything solid. Whatever is serious, appears to him dull;-whatever requires continued attention, fatigues him: the propensity to pleasure, which in youth is so strong, and the poor example of persons the same age.

Make Sure Your Discipline Promotes Health |

There is one who speaks like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health. (NKJV, Prov. 12:18)
My German upbringing has afforded me quite a piercing tongue. Every occasion of correction naturally arouses me to severity of tone, for that is how I perceived authority was wielded, like a sharp piercing sword. That is wrong, but it is natural for me. My first lessons in child discipline came from a little pamphlet we still carry...

September’s WCFS Calendar saying asks about the goals you are setting for your children. I am convinced that the Christian has a duty to set academic goals that reflect a pursuit of the Kingdom of God. These goals are derived from the Great Commission. Essentially, believers are charged with...

The disciple is not above [his] master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. (Matt 10:24-25a) When you read this verse, remember that God has woven some incredible things into your family. He has woven...

When traditionally structured academics begin to choke out the freedom of pursuing the unique needs and interests of their children, parents need to reassess the daily workload in the light of the eternal and create goals that cooperate with God's own plans for His Kingdom.

On the Salvation of Children |

When my wife and I first heard the news that we were to have a child, the very first thought I had was the sober reality of raising a child who was headed for hell without the intervening Grace of God. My whole focus narrowed to this daunting task of training "up a child in the way he should go so that when he is old, he won't depart". (Proverbs 22:6)

Are All These Your Children? |

My wife and I are frequently asked this question when we are out with our whole crew. My wife and I came to our convictions about family planning as young believers who earnestly desired a scriptural basis for discerning what Christ demanded of us as disciples. We felt that there must be absolutes that are clearly revealed in scripture in order for us to assess what is our domain and what is God’s for making our “family” decisions.
