Expo Guidlines

These guidelines provide a general standard by which Expo goals can be obtained and areas of potential confusion minimized. Parents become the Expo's first staff level overseeing the implementation of the guidelines.

Except in extreme cases of neglect, the Expo staff will attempt to honor the judgments made by parents as they have directed their children's projects. If a parent finds a particular rule or guideline intrusive or over-reaching, please bring your concern to Expo staff in advance.

The Expo staff reserves the right to alter guidelines & rules as it seems necessary.

Eligibility- Who may enter projects?

Examine the Family Heritage Expo's Statement of Faith and determine if your family shares the basic tenets of faith with us. We regret that certain individuals may feel left out, but considering our Christian intent of the Expo, we do not want to confuse our goals with differing expressions of faith. You may also want to look at the Expo Purpose & Goals statement.

Family Heritage Expo participation is open to children whose parents teach them at home in lieu of traditional schooling. Anyone can attend the Expo to see the displays.

Families wishing to participate must use the Student Exhibit Handbook in order to follow the guidelines and rules for participation. Refer to the General Participation Rules; rules for the type of project entered; registration information; and the event schedule and Expo agenda in the Student Exhibit Handbook Supplement Other pages of this site may also apply to you.

Parent's Role

The Expo's success depends upon family efforts being guided by the parents. It is the intention of the Expo to encourage, honor and maintain the primary role of the parents in their children's participation.

Parents are asked to help their child(ren) up to the point of the child's ability. It is understood that children need instructive help which will bring them past their own limited abilities. The bulk of the project should be the child's own work, but the step by step process is expected to have parental guidance. Use this general rule as a guideline: If my child can do this part (even though not as well as me) I should let him do it - we are learning, not competing.

Student Testimony

Students must present a brief written testimony with projects.

Parents are to ensure that the student is aware what the purpose and goals are for their project. The purpose of the testimony is to briefly explain to the public what God taught the student as a result of doing the project. Christians must be careful to do all things in a way that is worthy of the name of Christ. Refer to the General Participation Rules.
